While many brides do turn the reception over to a caterer or a wedding planner, others like to handle the arrangements themselves. It is more economical to plan the reception yourself and to arrange for someone to handle service for the reception. Perhaps a women's church group or a friend who organizes events will take charge of the actual event for you. Do not try to do the last minute preparation and serving yourself - you have much more important things to concentrate on!
Much of the cost of the reception will be decided by the time of day and the menu you want to offer. Obviously, a 5 course meal with an open bar and ice sculptures is going to be far more expensive than a reception tea with wedding cake.
